Balam Fund is a private equity firm specialized in equity investments for renewable energy generation (mainly solar PV, wind and mini-hydro), cogeneration, energy efficiency and sustainable projects in Mexico. Balam works closely with developers, investing along them and adding value in structuring and financing projects.
Balam Fund is a consortium made of three groups experienced and renowned in asset management and renewable energy on an international level, born in 2013 as a result of a tender process carried out that year by the Mexican Fondo Nacional de Infraestructura (FONADIN), to raise, invest and manage the first Green Fund in Mexico.
Balam Fund currently manages capital commitments of around 230 million dollars, which include Balam Fund I, L.P. and the Fideicomiso de Emisión de Certificados Bursátiles de Desarrollo “BalamCK16”.
Our international experience and knowledge of the Mexican energy market have allowed us to design an investment and energy commercialization strategy which is unique and aligned with our clients.
We have a long-term focus for our assets and we are one of the few players in the market willing to finance 100% of the assets with own resources. In other words, we have the flexibility of not being financed by debt and, therefore, are not subject to complex structuring and approval processes.
The Fund’s LPs include a Mexican state owned development fund Fonadin together with the General Partner and other international and multilateral development banks (such as JBIC, CAF, IDB).
The Fund is managed by a consortium formed by TRG Management LP, BK Renewables Ltd and Diamond Renewables.
