Bantay Bata 163

A program of ABS-CBN Foundation that has the first and only 24-hour hotline (163) dedicated to protecting Filipino children who are underprivileged and at-risk. It was first established on February 14, 1997 as a hotline for reporting cases of child abuse. It later evolved to offer a more holistic approach in promoting the rights and in protecting the welfare of Filipino children: 1) Children's Village -- established in May 2003 on a 2.5 hectare property in Norzagaray, Bulacan, housing an average of 150 children in its cottages. 2) Legal Assistance 3) Educational Assistance 4) Medical Assistance 5) Community-based Outreach Programs and Capacity-building Trainings-- a preventive strategy to curb child abuse Topics: -Alternative, non-violent parenting -Children's rights and responsibilities -Recognition -Reporting -Recording and Referral on child protection
