BariaTek Medical is a clinical stage company dedicated to addressing obesity via minimally invasive endoscopic approaches. Obesity is one of the most debilitating pandemics affecting humanity: More than 2 billion people are overweight of which 1 billion suffer from obesity. People suffering from obesity tend to lead shorter, less healthy, lives. Treating overweight-related conditions (diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea and others) is projected to cost G-20 nations on average 8.7% of their health budgets over the next three decades which is estimated by the United Nations to exceed $ 1.3 Trillion per year by this decade. Surgery works, it is the most effective approach to weight loss but it suffers from a low adoption rate due to safety issues, procedural complexity, and patient aversion. BariaTek Medical’s first product, the BariTon, is a soft atraumatic implant (no metal, no sutures, no staples) that is implanted via a minimally invasive endoscopic approach and which is intended to match the efficacy of surgery and surpass it in terms of safety, ease of use, and provide the option of reversibility via implant retrieval.
