Mission and Vision The Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley's mission statement is to enable young people, especially those furthest from opportunity, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The Club's vision is to provide a World-Class Club Experience that assures success is within reach of every young person who comes through its doors, with all members on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future, demonstrating good character & citizenship, and living a healthy lifestyle. The Boys and Girls Club of San Fernando Valley creates an environment in which students experience values that embrace diversity and equity regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, income level, national origin, physical ability, sexual orientation and/or gender identity and expression. History The Boys & Girls Club was established in December 1966, by a small group of local and community business leaders. Recognizing the sore lack of recreational and social services for youngsters in the Northeast San Fernando Valley (Pacoima), the concerned leaders committed initial funding and generated a joint grant from the Boys & Girls Club of America and the Southern California Boys Club Foundation. The Club began its operations in Pacoima, in a 300 square- foot storefront space. In May of 1968, under the leadership and direction of its then President/CEO LeRoy Chase and with the vision and support of the Board of Directors, the momentum needed for the Club to grow, began. To date, the Club is one of the oldest not-for-profit full-service youth agency in Pacoima, operating out of a 30,000 square foot complex near the corner of Glenoaks Boulevard and Van Nuys Boulevard. For over 55 years, the Club has been in the forefront of youth development in the indigent community of Pacoima, working with young people from disadvantaged economic, social, and family circumstances.
