Commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate and Energy of North Rhine-Westphalia (MWIKE), BIO.NRW is the state’s central network for strengthening biotechnology with our main focus areas of pharmaceutical biotechnology, industrial biotechnology, and bioeconomy. Since 2009, we have been driving innovation and sustainable economic growth in Germany’s most populous and industrially powerful federal state, with our office managed by Forschungszentrum Jülich. NRW is home to a thriving ecosystem of life sciences, cutting-edge research, and forward-thinking industries. BIO.NRW acts as a strategic partner, fostering collaboration between businesses, research institutions, and policymakers to enhance value chains in: - Pharmaceutical Biotechnology – Accelerating drug development and medical advancements. - Industrial Biotechnology – Enabling sustainable production processes. - Bioeconomy – Promoting renewable resources and circular economies. We provide targeted support to startups and SMEs, offering guidance on funding opportunities, internationalization, and participation in R&D consortia—including state, federal, and EU programs. Our platform also serves as a hub for matchmaking, connecting stakeholders to drive partnerships and projects forward.
