Bios Coop

It has started as an idea among citizens with common concerns, aiming to promote the Social and Solidarity Economy. We are now more than 430 members who have a common goal, to "take our food in our hands". We decided to defend ourselves against the greed of intermediaries and high-paid supermarket shelves. We demand quality, local and cheap products. At the same time, we support farmers' cooperatives and promote their quality products. In 2011, through the initiative of PRO.SK.AL.O., we founded our own Social Consumers Cooperative, ‘Bios Coop’ (from Cooperative). Collaborative, non-profit, with each of us as member. Our non-profit cooperative supermarket opened in November 2013 and is now in its 8th year of life. Our goal: To provide our members, their families and the local community with cheap, local and quality products, directly from more than 400 local producers, without intermediaries, through a sustainable consumption model. Our motivation: Respect for the people and their needs! Our project is structured on the principles of Social and Solidarity Economy and Direct Democracy and promotes human and natural sustainability. Why participate? -to finally create a dynamic consumers movement in Greece, -to enjoy quality, local products without intermediaries, and, therefore, at low prices, -to strengthen producer cooperatives and individual local producers, -to finally “Take our food in our hands”, creating a critical mass that will change the rules of the game. How can you become a member? By accepting the articles of association of the Cooperative, you fill in the registration form and pay once the member’s share of the cooperative, which is €150.
