Biozyme Technologies was established to address an urgent need: the fight against plastic pollution, visible on land, in oceans, and even from space. 99% of the world's plastic is produced from petroleum, and nearly a quarter of consumed plastics lack proper end-of-life management. Despite this, we are unable to eliminate its use. Plastic, with its characteristics of flexibility and multiplicity of uses, is an integral part of our daily lives. Strategic sectors, including health and high technologies, are significant consumers of this material. Moreover, plastic production continues to rise. Biozyme is a Quebec-based organization seeking to acquire cutting-edge technology to facilitate plastic circularity within the territory. Water bottles, vegetable trays, and clothing all share the commonality of being composed of plastic, particularly polyethylene terephthalate or PET. We aim to recycle them through the acquisition of enzymatic bio-recycling technology developed by Carbios. Mature and developed in France, this technology allows the recycling of the equivalent of 10 used bottles, recovering the plastic monomers to create 9.5 new ones. Additionally, it helps avoid greenhouse gas emissions at a rate of 2 tons of CO2 equivalent for every ton of waste treated. Ultimately, it enables us to break free from our dependence on petroleum and addresses the urgent need to reduce plastic pollution. The consumed plastic is no longer a final waste but becomes a key resource.
