Founded in the summer of 2014 by husband and wife team Richard Siberry and Michaela Dillon, in Ballinough, Co. Roscommon, Black Donkey Brewing is Ireland’s original, multi-award winning farmhouse style brewery.
Embracing tradition, and Ireland’s long and storied brewing heritage, Black Donkey’s beers are still brewed the same way beer’s been brewed for generations. The beer is never filtered, and no chemicals, finings or other additives are ever used. All our packaged beer undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle for a bright and all natural sparkle.
The brewery specialises in brewing traditional, yeast and malt focused beers. Black Donkey created the Irish Farmhouse Ale style with the launch in 2014 of their flagship “Sheep Stealer”.
The spirit of independent, micro brewing is embraced in every small batch, handcrafted beer produced. From the multi award winning “Sheep Stealer”, to the unique, native Underworld series, or whatever the brew-crew dreams up next.
All of our recipes are formulated with a view to food pairings; after all, Ireland’s annual barley harvest is far more valuable than our grape harvest! Irish restaurants strive to source the best local, seasonal ingredients to serve to their diners; we aim to complement those well-crafted menus with equally well-crafted beer selections.
