About Black Nurses Week®
Black Nurses Week® was created to elevate and unify the Black nursing community. We know that Black nurses have a powerful impact in reducing healthcare disparities and effectively advocating for patients of color in the healthcare organizations that we choose to serve. The goal of Black Nurses Week is to designate a specific week out of the year to celebrate and shine the light on Black nursing excellence. Inaugurated in 2022, July 26-August 1 will be the annual designated week chosen to celebrate Black Nurses Week in honor of Mary Eliza Mahoney. Mary was the first African American nurse to graduate with her professional nursing diploma in the United States of America on August 1, 1879. Black Nurses Week will activate its vision with its monumental events that are strategically designed to elevate, celebrate, motivate, and educate the Black nursing community while building stronger social bonds and unity. We look forward to meeting you at a Black Nurses Week event.
