BLUEBOOST rests on the hypothesis that the increased aquaculture production of a wide range of low trophic species in conjunction with established European aquaculture will boost the production of nutritious food, while reducing the environmental footprint towards carbon-neutrality. The increase of low trophic species aquaculture will: a) increase both the volume, diversity and self-sufficiency of aquaculture production, b) reduce the environmental footprint, c) boost a resource-efficient and profitable economy, d) promote a circular economy, e) develop new nutritious products, f) minimise negative impact of the farms on the ecosystem and g) increase ecosystems resilience against climate change.
