I often encounter organizations that are unaware of the potential of an effective team. In some cases, senior management doubts the value and performance capacity of existing teams while sometimes the team itself feels it lacks direction, leadership, confidence, and organizational support to succeed.
And this is exactly where the transformative journey starts - acknowledging that members of any type of organization can achieve much more collaborating together than by themselves.
As long as the organization has a team success mindset, there exists the potential for a fundamental team to transform into a high performance team - where team coaching plays a vital role. Studies reveal how quickly the team becomes successful increasingly correlates to the degree of influence and engagement with skilled team coaching.
I coach teams at all levels and stages of development. In many cases, the team exists at a fundamental team level comprised of a group of individuals with the potential to collectively accomplish a common goal. The members desire success and inherently know they can achieve more together than by themselves. But for a variety of internal and external reasons, the team underperforms, lacks the ability to synergize, or struggles to take action on the advisement of dysfunctional team behavior.
An early priority in the early stages of a team coaching partnership is to differentiate between the teams' interpersonal dynamic as the 'problem' versus 'symptoms' of broader causal factors. A key to transforming team behavior is focusing on the right things and uncovering the blind spots with the team, management, and all internal and external stakeholders.
