The British Pilgrimage Trust (BPT) was founded in 2014 to revive the ancient practice of pilgrimage in Britain. Our mission is to make pilgrimage accessible to all—regardless of faith, background, or income—and offer people a chance to reconnect with nature, history, and themselves by walking Britain’s historic paths.
We believe pilgrimage is for everyone, not just those with traditional religious faith. Our “Bring Your Own Beliefs” approach invites people on a personal journey, discovering what is meaningful to them along ancient routes walked for thousands of years. Whether for spiritual, emotional, or physical well-being, pilgrimage provides profound benefits—helping people reflect, heal, and build deeper connections with the world around them.
Britain has a uniquely rich heritage of sacred paths and places going back thousands of years. Over the last decade, we’ve created Britain’s largest library of pilgrimage routes, free to all online. These include paths designed by local communities. We’ve also developed programs for underserved groups, such as the bereaved, and those facing mental health challenges. By offering affordable guided pilgrimages and growing our network of Sanctuaries—community-led, low-cost accommodations—we ensure that pilgrimage is an experience everyone can access.
Our work relies on the generosity of supporters. Donations directly fund the expansion of our routes, more resources, and subsidized pilgrimages for those in need. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us grow and make this life-changing experience available to more people.
