Our Cardiogenomics and Functional Genomics Research Group at the University of Antwerp and Antwerp University Hospital investigates the genetic basis of inherited cardiovascular and connective tissue disorders. We integrate clinical expertise with advanced -omics technologies in zebrafish, mouse, and human cell models to uncover and target the molecular mechanisms behind these conditions. Our focus is on two main disease groups:
(1) Inherited aortic disorders, including Marfan, Loeys-Dietz, Meester-Loeys, vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndromes, bicuspid aortic valve aortopathy, and familial thoracic aortic aneurysm/dissection.
(2) Inherited cardiac arrhythmias, such as Brugada syndrome, Long QT syndrome, and arrhythmogenic ventricular cardiomyopathy.
Onze onderzoeksgroep Cardiogenomics en Functionele Genomics aan de Universiteit Antwerpen en het UZA bestudeert de genetische basis van erfelijke hart- en bindweefselziekten. We combineren klinische expertise met geavanceerde -omics technologieën in zebravis-, muis- en humane celmodellen om de onderliggende moleculaire mechanismen te begrijpen en gericht te behandelen. We richten ons op twee hoofdgroepen:
