Cascabel Ranch & Consulting is a rangeland management consultancy firm rooted in decades of experience—on-the-ground, scientific, and academic.
Lamar and Deborrah—owners of a dedicated calf/cow operation that began in Arizona—wished to combine their passion for raising cattle and managing rangeland using best management practices to conserve natural resources to help other ranchers with their land management needs. So, in 1998, Cascabel Ranch & Consulting was born. Since then, they’ve helped dozens of ranchers across the western US, and even internationally, to identify and assess needs, develop best practices, and create plans for grazing management and conservation.
Lamar and Deborrah began their ranching operation in Arizona along the San Pedro River in Cascabel, AZ, where they lived for almost 15 years. During that time, they managed 125,000 acres of mixed state lease and private lands. Lamar and Deborrah raised their youngest daughter on the ranch where she learned to ride horses, driving cattle up and down the dirt road from pasture to pasture, learning about the importance of grazing rotation. In 1999, seven years after establishing Cascabel Ranch, along came their son, who spent his first years toddling around calves in the corrals and chasing barn cats.
With deep roots in Arizona (both personally and professionally), a move to Texas in 2005 was a hard decision. Yet it didn't keep the family from continuing their fight for ranching in Arizona. Advancements in technology and good old rubber tires continued to take them across the state, and elsewhere in the west, helping ranchers and Conservation Districts with conservation consulting, grant writing and administration, conservation plan development, and more.
The travel keeps them busy, but they would never trade the way of life a working ranch provides.
