Challenge Discovery Projects

Challenge Discovery Projects (CDP) promotes social and emotional wellness for youth and their families through school-based and community programs focused on preventing and addressing issues related to behavioral health, substance use, bullying, and trauma. For over four decades, CDP’s commitment to serving youth in Greater Richmond has remained steadfast. As a safety net provider, CDP fosters community wellness by implementing preventative strategies proven effective by the Centers for Disease Control. CDP’s signature initiatives include Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs, which are led in classrooms and after school. In addition, CDP operates a Youth Behavioral Health and Substance Use Outpatient Clinic on-site and at satellite locations throughout the East End of Richmond. CDP also supports cohorts of the "We Matter" Gun Violence Prevention Initiative (GVPI) at Powhatan Recreation Center and River City Middle School. Together with a robust network of community partners, CDP is breaking down barriers to mental health care. We are dedicated to ensuring inclusivity by promoting equitable access to services.
