The Biblical story of David and Goliath is a well-known parable. David used his agility and speed to out manoeuvre his larger opponent. He used precision to ensure he hit Goliath where it hurt and he didn’t play by the rules with a sword and shield, he did things differently. Challenger brands are natural David’s, fighting against larger and more established competitors who seemingly have all the advantages of strength, size and resources. But if challenger brands think outside the box and use their own built-in advantages – passion, speed, agility, precision and disruption – then they can compete. Where do I come in? I provide you with the skills and tools to unlock the challenger within. I’ve worked in the drinks industry for over 20 years and in that time I’ve been David and Goliath. The first half of my career I was Goliath. I plied my trade at Carlsberg, Heineken and C&C Group but after 10 years I felt a strong pull to disrupt the status quo in a faster paced challenger environment. I wanted to be David. Using passion, speed, agility, precision and disruption as my weapons I helped grow Purity Brewing Co’s sales to over £10m and I loved it. Take that Goliath. In recent years there has been an explosion of craft breweries, cideries, distilleries and soft drinks in the UK. Quickly the founders realise making great flavoursome liquids is the easy part. Successfully bringing them to market is where it gets really difficult. This is where I come in.
