The Clemson Headgear Impact Performance Laboratory acts to contribute in both innovative research and industry testing. The research aims to develop testing methods to understand the effects of impacts on the head and neck to aid in the prevention of sports and industry related injuries (mTBI, concussions, etc.) while considering the current protective equipment used to mitigate such impacts. The lab's testing capabilities include pneumatic ram linear impact testing for helmets, drop tower testing for facemasks, and many other experiments to establish mechanical properties and performance metrics of headgear equipment.
