Nahua is Costa Rica’s leading fine flavor single origin cacao producer with a social mission, currently working with clients around the world. Grown in Costa Rica’s rainforest in rich volcanic soil, our single-origin Trinitario cacao beans are nurtured to their full-bodied flavor potential through a meticulous post-harvest process.
Working directly with top-selected local farmers, we procure our beans fresh and manage the entire post-harvest process at our controlled fermentation facility in the idyllic Costa Rican climate, consistently achieving a 7% humidity level of each bean.
Founded in 2011 in San Jose, Costa Rica, Nahua was the product of Juan Pablo Buchert’s passion for chocolate and all things cacao – testament to his role of as President of the Costa Rican Chamber of Premium Cacao. Through sourcing his own premium quality, single origin cacao beans from local communities in the Upala region of Costa Rica, the focus expanded to include the empowerment of these smallholder farmers through technical and social programmes, and Nahua’s Cacao Renovation Program was born.
Since its inception, Nahua’s operations have been developed under a sustainable economic and social development model that supports and empower these communities, providing critical financial assistance and consistent access to above fair price markets. As Costa Rica’s leading producer of fine-flavored and ethically sourced cacao beans, we produce only top quality Trinitario cacao sourced fresh from our farmer community.
In addition to our award-winning beans, we have a selection of artisan, hand-crafted chocolate products. Our skilled Chocolatiers apply traditional techniques to ensure production of the highest quality chocolate bars and truffles. Through their training in Europe’s finest institutes, our chocolatiers bring to life Nahua’s unique blend of technique and tradition.
