Center for Information Convergence and Strategy (CICS)

The Center for Information Convergence and Strategy (CICS) envisions, develops and deploys strategic future-aware technological solutions at local, state, federal, and tribal levels. CICS is home to over thirty researchers and subject matter experts, from domains as diverse as climatology, linguistics, religious studies, public administration, international trade, criminology, disaster management, and global security. The center focuses on data acquisition and analytics, social media solutions, strategic mapping, and systems integration and development. CICS deploys computational technologies and domain expertise to evaluate current trends and develop strategies based on evolving content, from advanced visualization to predictive analytics. CICS aims to catalyze the advancement of San Diego State University as a national leader in knowledge-driven, transdisciplinary thinking and solutions. CICS provides original research, practical technology solutions and strategic consulting in these areas: Mining of unstructured text and other knowledge artifacts Analysis of geographically referenced information Longitudinal and cross-sectional multivariate big data analysis Development of novel educational offerings in data science, analytics, visualization, geospatial intelligence Seminars on topics related to information convergence and strategy for national/international audiences Consultation and guidance in regards to ethical, legal and civil liberties issues surrounding emerging technologies
