The Research Centre in Economics and Entrepreneurship (CIEE, Centro de Investigaciones Económicas y Empresariales) is the leading research centre in economics at the Universidad Privada Boliviana (UPB). UPB is the highest-ranked private university in Bolivia and is a nonprofit educational foundation.
It was founded with the objective of generating research in applied economics, prioritizing technical analysis supported by robust data for academic dissemination and policy advising. The activities of CIEE span a wide spectrum of research areas, including labor markets, inequality and poverty, regional development, analysis of productive sectors, competitiveness and regulation, sustainable development, public health, and market analysis.
CIEE focuses on the use of mathematical and statistical techniques and methods, econometric models, and analytical theory as fundamental tools for applied research. We work closely with the other three research centers housed at UPB: SDSN Bolivia, focusing on actionable policies for sustainable development; CEGIE, specializing in the collection of primary data and the design of surveys for fieldwork; and LABEX, the laboratory for behavioral economics.
