In keeping with the mission of City University of Hong Kong, the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) actively pursues excellence in teaching, research and scholarly activities in humanities and social sciences, and places strong emphasis on development of the whole person through a well-rounded and broad-based professional education. CLASS now contains seven academic units: Chinese and History; English; Linguistics and Translation; Media and Communication; Public and International Affairs; Social and Behavioural Sciences, and Chan Feng Men-ling Chan Shuk-lin Language Centre. CLASS programmes have been designed to meet Hong Kong society's rising demand for policy planners, urban managers, public administrators, human service practitioners, language educators, corporate communicators and professionals in the fields of media and communication. In addition to undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes, the College also offers research degree programmes at MPhil and PhD levels. The College has a robust research culture and a broad research agenda focusing on language, culture, communications, society, government, public administration, social policy, and human service intervention. Interdisciplinary education and research-led learning is advanced through CLASS Labs. CLASS Labs bring together six research centres and 12 education and research labs, serving as idea incubator to create opportunities for students and faculty to use advanced technologies and information and communication technologies to develop new and innovative pedagogies. Academic staff members of the College come from all over the world. They constitute a highly versatile, dynamic and multidisciplinary team of scholars with strong international links and professional expertise.
