CNPC R&D (DIFC) Company Limited is a private company incorporated in the DIFC in Dubai with its parent company CNPC International Ltd. The Company has a business scope related to oilfield development planning, execution, and production operation optimization as well as technology R&D. Over the years, CNPC (China National Petroleum Corporation, the largest oil company in China) has considered to enhance its technical support capability for the quality development of oilfields in the Middle East, esp. in Iraq. This includes engagement of high-quality professionals with extensive and hands-on skills and experiences in the region, R&D facility at the proximity to the oilfields enabling frequent technical interaction, knowledge sharing through both face-to-face interaction and remote conferences, meanwhile leveraging the vast knowledges and experiences from the existing technical supporting teams of CNPC based in China. The establishment of CNPC R&D at the heart of Dubai, a dynamic metropolitan city in the Middle East, is making this goal to be achieved sooner. In the early days, the Company is providing technical services such as oilfield development plan studies, reservoir performance analysis, well pattern optimization, water flooding studies, and other consultancies required by the oilfield development operations mostly in Iraq, Oman, and Abu Dhabi of UAE, with its main clients being subsidiaries of CNPC and joint ventures where CNPC’s subsidiary is a partner. CNPC, through its various subsidiaries, has been in development and production operations in dozens of oilfields in the Middle East region. The petroleum contracts mostly last for 20-30 years. CNPC R&D is going to provide technical support to these operations for many years to come, and meanwhile will gradually provide services to other oil companies, both NOCs and IOCs with upstream oil and gas projects in this region and beyond.
