Coast 2 Coast Movement

Coast 2 Coast is a Peruvian community-based nonprofit that weaves investigation with imagination, engaging young learners and rural educators in small-scale fishing villages to explore and build relationships with their built-natural surroundings through the power of enchantment. Together, we gather, illustrate, and mobilize intergenerational knowledge for conservation, food, health, and sustainable (epic) futures. As declining fish stocks, rising sea levels, waste mismanagement, habitat destruction, poor governance, and other anthropogenic stressors undermine the well-being of small-scale fishing communities, young people in rural coastal and riparian villages experience a growing sense of disconnection with their social-ecological surroundings. From coast to coast, our nonprofit facilitates playful workshops, programs, and festivals with rural schools and local educational projects in fishing communities that focus on children’s situated experiences within local contexts that include materials, places, and nonhuman others and support young learners as socio-ecological agents capable of effecting change for sustainable futures.
