Coinbite is a UK registered FinTech business with ambitious plans to become a leading global marketplace for private, early stage equity investment through the creation of a blockchain powered crowdfunding platform. Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT), and tokenisation, enables asset owners to turn the ownership rights to a share of any asset (in any asset class), into a tradable digital security (token). Tokenisation and decentralised finance have been identified as having the potential to accelerate progress in one of the most pressing societal challenges facing the world today – reducing global wealth disparities (see below). To illustrate; the total market size for global fixed income and equity was worth approximately $178 trillion in 2019 with 43.9 % of global wealth being held by 0.9 per cent of the world’s population. More than half the global population are at the bottom of the wealth pyramid collectively holding a mere 1.8 % of wealth. Given this statistic, it is easy to understand why investment remains the privilege of the mass affluent. Coupled with the fact that a significant percentage of the population has limited access to banking services hampers further this group’s ability to save, accumulate wealth and therefore, break the chains of poverty. This is all about to change. Decentralised financial services (DeFi) and mobile digital wallets provide large, under-banked populations with the opportunity to engage in financial activities they were previously excluded from.
