CommunicationFIRST is the only disability-led nonprofit organization (EIN 83-0836835) dedicated to protecting and advancing the civil rights of the more than 5 million people in the United States who, due to disability or other condition, are unable to use speech alone to be heard and understood. We believe that having the communication tools and supports necessary to express ideas, needs, and desires is a fundamental human right. Communication is essential to autonomy, self-determination, and well-being. We work to educate the public, advocate for policy reform, and engage the legal system to advance the rights, autonomy, opportunity, and dignity of our historically marginalized community.
