Community Action Akron Summit has been fighting poverty and empowering area residents for more than fifty years. A private non-profit organization, its work focused on promoting self-sufficiency and reduce poverty by addressing the needs of low-income individuals and families in Akron and Summit County.
Community Action has a long history of providing essential services, including:
• Education and Youth Development - providing high-quality programs like Head Start, Early Head Start and Foster Grandparent Program that promote learning, health, and family well-being for children and caregivers
• Energy and Utility Assistance - aiding residents with heating, cooling and utility support through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) and other initiatives
• Health Improvement - addressing physical, social and behavioral health needs of at-risk individuals
• Housing and Tax Assistance - helping families stay in their homes by providing rental assistance, foreclosure prevention counseling and other services
