The Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) is a national, multi-ethnic organization founded in 1971 to advocate for the transportation careers and transportation needs of minorities. Since its inception, COMTO currently has 39 chapters throughout the United States and over 3,000 members from various transportation-related corporations, small businesses, government agencies, and universities. COMTO NORCAL currently has 50 members representing businesses and government agencies throughout the 9-county San Francisco Bay Area.
COMTO's vision is to provide full access to employment, career, and contract opportunities for minorities within the transportation industry. The mission of the Northern California Chapter of COMTO is to strengthen the position of minorities within the transportation industry in the following ways:
- Increase the number of minorities appointed to executive positions
- Identify, recruit and develop emerging professionals for senior and executive-level positions
- Educate minority and women-owned businesses about contract opportunities within the transit industry
- Assist communities in the areas of education, awareness, and service equity
