Cortas Canning & Refrigerating Co. SAL, is one of the oldest canning companies in the Middle-east, and the first Lebanese company to start commercially producing regional specialties. Based in Beirut, its official registration goes all the way back to 1930. The story of Cortas is first and foremost, one of family, heritage and great ambition; one that started when Emile Cortas, a freshly graduated young man, decided to share his mother’s incomparable jams with the world. The company was hence born with the aim of selling those famously authentic fruit preserves, and soon expanded to include tomato paste, vegetables and fruit-based syrups, after Emile was joined by his brother Michel a couple of years later. Over the past 90 years and despite going through the hurdles of World War 2, Lebanon's civil war and continuous regional instabilities, Cortas managed to build a reputation of excellence and perseverance and to significantly expand its offering to include a much wider range of 100% vegan, authentic middle eastern staples distributed in all of the Middle-east and Africa and reaching overseas to the US, Canada, Australia and Europe. Today, Cortas still stands for its mission to bring authentic, plant-based, middle eastern flavors to all connoisseurs, while remaining true to its origins.
