The Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (the "CRCICA" or the "Centre") is an independent non-profit international organization established in 1979 under the auspices of the Asian African Legal Consultative Organization ("AALCO"), in pursuance of AALCO's decision taken at the Doha Session in 1978 to establish regional centres for international commercial arbitration in Asia and Africa. In 1979, an agreement was concluded between AALCO and the Egyptian Government for the establishment of CRCICA for an experimental period of three years. In 1983, another agreement was concluded between AALCO and the Egyptian Government granting permanent status to CRCICA. Pursuant to the Headquarters Agreement concluded in December 1987 between AALCO and the Egyptian Government, CRCICA's status as an international organization was recognized and the Centre and its branches were endowed with all necessary privileges and immunities ensuring their independent functioning.
