O Centro de Referência em Inteligência Artificial (CRIA) da Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC) é resultado da aprovação do projeto homônimo CEREIA (Centro de Referência em Inteligência Artificial) em seleção nacional conduzida por um consórcio formado pelo Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Inovação (MCTI), pela Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) e pelo Comitê Gestor da Internet no Brasil (CGI.br) para a instalação de Centros de Pesquisa Aplicada (CPAs) em Inteligência Artificial (IA).
