Our research creates fundamental advances in Computational Science, including Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Mathematical Modelling. We have a focus on real world application problems and meaningful validation of our new theoretical advances, and so draw also on expertise from engineering and social science, and strong partnerships with industry and other research institutions. We aim to provide a supportive environment where researchers of different experiences but common interests can work together and learn from each other.
Artificial Intelligence and the Data Economy is one of the UK Government’s Grand Challenges. Whilst described as a distinct challenge, the reality is that the management and use of data is also at the core of the other three Grand Challenges: the Future of Mobility, Clean Growth and the Ageing Society.
Our centre aims to address these challenges by creating fundamental advances in Computational Science, including Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Mathematical Modelling. These are designed to solve real world application problems and be meaningfully validated as such. To achieve this the centre draws not only on expertise in Computer Science but also engineering, social science, and strong partnerships with industry.
The Centre is conducting research in the following 3 themes:

▪️ Fundamental Algorithms for AI
