American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (ACVB)

The American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (ACVB) is the certifying board for veterinarians who are specialty trained to advance the behavioral health of animals through research, science-based behavior education, and the practice of clinical behavioral medicine. Members of the ACVB: Are veterinarians trained to assess the relationship between a patient’s health and behavior. Provide clinical treatment of behavior concerns in all animal species. Have extensive knowledge of psychotropic medications, their uses, potential side effects and interactions with other medications, and are licensed to prescribe them when indicated. Perform behavior research that is published in journals of education for all veterinarians. Lecture nationally and internationally to provide science-based behavior education to veterinarians, veterinary students, technical staff and the public. Work together to define, educate and certify the veterinary behavior specialists of the future. The American College of Veterinary Behaviorists (ACVB) is the AVMA-recognized veterinary specialty organization™ for certification of the ACVB. The ACVB undergoes a comprehensive evaluation by the American Board of Veterinary Specialties (ABVS), a committee of the American Veterinary Medical Association, every three years to ensure that we are maintaining the required standards for our certification process.
