Life Dance Community Overview

Life Dance Community is a group of people who passionately believe in building the health of our community by creating meaningful social connections through dance. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆'𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗷𝗼𝗿 𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱-𝗼𝗻. Social isolation is as harmful as smoking, poor dietary habits and lack of exercise, and much more harmful than alcohol or drugs. At no time in human history have so many people lived alone as in Western societies today. We believe dancing with others will help make each of us physically and mentally more healthy. We believe that dancing together will help those experiencing loneliness and social isolation and make our diverse community stronger. And we believe that access to social connection, joy and wellness should not depend on money, age or physical ability. The program will be integrative. Participants living with social, economic, physical or mental disadvantage, from different countries of origin or background, of different genders or ages and participants from the wider community will interact as one. Intergenerational activities will be a key focus. 𝗜𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀, connections which are sustained outside the program. It will be joyful, fun! It will be guided by what has been learned by professionals in mental health and community development. We are a non-profit organisation and registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for Profits Commission. The new enterprise is intended to be a self supporting social enterprise after 𝗸𝗶𝗰𝗸𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 ($25K — in contrast, Australia spends over $210M per year on diabetes education and support).
