The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) is the central self-governing research funding organisation in Germany. The DFG takes particular care to promote international cooperation, early career researchers, gender equality and diversity in science and the humanities.
The DFG supports international cooperation in all its funding programmes. In order to facilitate transnational research cooperation, it maintains relations with a large number of foreign partner organisations.
Japan is one of the DFG’s main partners in the Asia-Pacific region and the DFG Office Japan was established in 2009 in Tokyo.
The partnership with the funding agencies Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED), Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) and Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) is based on shared interests and values, as pursued jointly on global platforms such as the Global Research Council and the Funding Agencies Presidents Meeting.
