The pandemic has accelerated workplace change. Future generations will wonder why we spent over an hour a day commuting? How parents shared family responsibilities equally, or households managed the cost of living on one and a bit wages. Perhaps, they'll make a mini-series about the noughties with characters struggling to find a work-life balance. In the same ways, we now comment on the smoking and casual sexism in the Madmen series set in the sixties. Of course, WFH isn't without its critics. And whilst productivity, mental health, and recruitment fears have mainly proved unfounded, obstacles persist. For example, employees report increased conflict due to communication challenges while remote working. In addition, there are risks related to equality and inclusion, learning and development and reward and recognition.
