Digital Crossroads was developed as part of Dr. Catherine Mulligan’s 2024 Robert Bosch Academy fellowship with the Robert Bosch Stiftung. Digital Crossroads actively develops new approaches to digital infrastructure in collaboration with researchers, communities, and policy actors.
It explores how digital technologies can be shaped to support societies through the complex social, environmental, and economic transformations of the 21st century.
Digital Crossroads brings together research, field insights, and policy thinking to examine how digital infrastructures, particularly data architectures and digital governance systems, can be designed to create public value. The initiative focuses on how digital systems can be reimagined to strengthen resilience, promote sustainability, and enable equitable participation in digital futures.
Digital Crossroads engages with diverse partners—from community organisations to academic institutions and international policy actors—to explore questions such as:
• How can digital systems better serve the needs of people and the planet?
• What kinds of governance, standards, and values should underpin future infrastructures?
• How do we make digital transformation work in contexts of vulnerability and uncertainty?
By exploring these questions, Digital Crossroads supports the shift from extractive and siloed digital systems toward ones that enable shared value, democratic accountability, and long-term resilience.
