Digital Storytelling is an Educational platform to inspire, equip and empower ordinary citizens with storytelling skills and Digital Literacy, to transform them as Citizen Journalists. Internet revolution has caused a paradigm shift in the power structure in the Media world. Communication industry that once was hierarchal got flattened out, empowering the audience and transforming them from being passive consumers to active creators. The advent of social media, smart phone revolution and computational photography have pushed the limits even further. The convergence of these technologies has produced infinite possibilities and changed the way we operate in the digital world and consume information. But this unprecedented development has come with a cost. Human perception, integrity of democracies and the right to privacy has been made more vulnerable than ever. Digital Storytelling takes two pronged approach to optimize the possibilities through Visual Storytelling and address the challenges through Digital Literacy. We believe storytelling is empowering and it has the power to touch and change lives. That's why we empower ordinary citizens with storytelling skills, enabling them to capture, create and share stories of and from their communities. This enables ordinary citizens to get their voices heard and challenge the polarizing mainstream media that has often neglected their plight. But empowering them with storytelling skills alone is inadequate. We believe Digital Literacy is a single most competency everyone should be able to access in the digital world, not only to be active creators but to be responsible consumers. We believe Digital Literacy is the way forward to protect the integrity of the truth and facts. We believe storytelling coupled with Digital Literacy can create a new generation of empowered citizens who will not only be responsible consumers, but also be active creators telling stories, touching lives and empowering humanity as a whole.
