About Diverse Empowerment Foundation
Diverse Empowerment Foundation believes in the power of community engagement and participation. We actively involve members of the communities we serve in shaping our programs and initiatives. Through participatory approaches, we ensure that our activities are relevant and responsive to the needs of marginalized womxn. By fostering a culture of collaboration, we empower individuals to take ownership of their experiences and contribute to the development of their communities. Creating safe spaces is at the heart of DEF’s work. We provide environments where marginalized womxn can come together to share their experiences, discuss challenges, and find support. Our flagship program, Ffena Kukyoto, is modeled after traditional African family gatherings around bonfires, facilitating open discussions on topics such as sexual and reproductive health, mental well-being, and community building. This approach fosters a sense of belonging and community among participants. Socio-Economic Skills Training Empowering individuals economically is crucial for achieving independence and self-sufficiency. DEF offers various skills training programs that focus on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and vocational skills. One of our key initiatives, Twekobe, equips beneficiaries with the knowledge and tools necessary to start and sustain their businesses. By promoting economic empowerment, we help individuals gain confidence and improve their quality of life, ultimately contributing to the well-being of their communities. Research and Advocacy DEF is committed to conducting research that sheds light on the specific challenges faced by lesbian, bisexual, and queer womxn, especially those living with disabilities. By collecting data and insights, we aim to inform our advocacy efforts and shape policies that protect and promote the rights of marginalized groups.
