Our objective is to greatly increase the number of people in prison studying Further and Higher Education.
DWRM works to break down the barriers to successful delivery of Higher Education in prison, which we have experienced from both sides of the fence. We work with universities to offer a much wider choice of degree courses than are currently available to students in prison. We focus on the provision of study materials, tuition and greater participation in a learning community so as to properly engage students.
We also offer tailored support to prepare prison leavers and probation service users by equipping and supporting them with employability skills. We help them to identify and map their skill sets against the areas they would like to work in, develop their CVs and disclosure letters, and co-author a realistic, multi-step plan to help them with securing the employment they want.
Our students are matched with a peer mentor with lived experience to help them during their employability journey.
Further and Higher Education in prison can lead to a stable, desirable career path to enable the effective transition from custodial environments into communities.
Everything we do is focused on enabling our students to establish themselves in a career that is accessible to them.
We set realistic expectations for our students as well as for their prospective employers.
