EcoSpectrum

With the growing popularity of intergenerational inclusivity and community empowerment within climate and ocean discussions, there is an urgent need for the inclusion of neurodivergent and autistic youth in the climate conversation, especially given the consequences suffered by the community as a result of climate change and global warming. EcoSpectrum is the first app in the world that aims to elevate the inclusivity of students and youth on the spectrum of autism in the climate action and ocean conservation movement. Based in the United Arab Emirates, EcoSpectrum contains UN climate and ocean documents that are translated into over 100 languages and adjusted to suit and satisfy the needs of students and youth on the spectrum of autism. Through the engagement of students studying the International Baccalaureate high school curriculum, youth will be informed about crucial issues that concern our climate and oceans through granting them access to original documents that require translating work in exchange for CAS hours, and therefore not only benefiting students on the spectrum, but also youth with limited knowledge about climate change and ocean security. EcoSpectrum aims to start a revolution in representing the autistic and neurodivergent community as valid stakeholders and vital members in the climate and marine conservation movement. Our goal is for the neurodivergent/ autistic community to feel empowered to act and motivated to be included in climate and ocean discussions. Equipped by resources that suit their needs and elevate their understanding of climate and ocean issues, we aim to inspire the community to be fearlessly driven with passion and increase their participation and representation in climate and ocean discussions.
