Institute of European Media Law (EMR)

Institute of European Media Law is a think tank based in Saarbrücken, Germany. Since its foundation in 1990, the Institute of European Media Law (EMR) has offered a neutral platform for information, exchange and advice in the media sector. One of the EMR's main areas of activity is research into media and network regulation in Europe. It also focuses on the preparation of expert opinions for public and private clients on current national, European and international issues relating to media, data protection, telecommunications, and competition law. Government bodies, parliamentary committees, media companies, and research institutes specifically contact the EMR, for example to have draft legislation assessed or specialist legal issues analysed. This is another reason why the EMR is one of the most renowned research and consultancy organisations in this sector. When conducting scientific studies, interdisciplinary references to the respective subject matter are always taken into account, as the specialist areas of media and communications law overlap, particularly in the wake of the digitalisation of information and communication processes.
