Earth Surface Processes Team

The ESP team is integrated in the Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies (CESAM), Dept. of Environment and Planning (DAO) of the University of Aveiro, since 2005. Research in the ESP team focuses on: i) carbon and nutrient cycling and soil fertility losses, particularly in burnt areas; ii) sustainably restoring/improving soil functions with biochar; iii) climate change impacts on watershed processes and on the ecological status of water bodies; iv) forest hydrology and eco-hydrological modelling; v) off-site fire effects of wildfires, namely the impacts on aquatic ecosystems, and post-fire management; vi) stakeholder participation in sustainable land management (forest and agricultural areas); vii) prescribed fire effects on the soil system.
