Ethiopia Deaf Project

Who we are EDP is an ever growing community of people dedicated to providing Deaf children from poor rural villages in Ethiopia with their only hope of going to school. Many Deaf children living in rural communities are stigmatised and marginalised and are often excluded from attending their local schools. EDP and its supporters are committed to changing that reality for as many Deaf children as possible. What we do In response to the desperate needs of rural Deaf children for access to education, EDP helped build the Ambo Lazarist Deaf School. Through our child sponsorship program and all our other fundraising activities we continue to support the running of the school which provides the children with a real sense of hope and belonging. We have a very close relationship with the staff who are all qualified teachers of the Deaf and committed to ensuring that each children can reach their full potential in education. Our child sponsors love the opportunity provided to follow the progress of the child they are supporting. Why do we do it? At EDP we know the sad reality of the life that each Deaf child experienced before coming to the school: the pain of their exclusion, the loneliness of their isolation and their utter lack of hope for their future. We also know the joy and hope that education is now bringing to their lives. EDP are determined to provide this life transforming opportunity for as many more rural deaf children as possible.
