Eutrobac’s journey started when co-founder Ellie Sangree was only 16. Growing up on a farm, Ellie was aware and worried about the issue of nutrient pollution in her community and around the world. After doing research on ways to remediate nitrogen and phosphorus pollution, she learned that most solutions involved dumping large amounts of synthetic chemicals into natural waterways. Ellie was sure there was a better way.
Now a PhD candidate at UC Santa Cruz, Ellie has dedicated years of research to the topic of nutrient pollution. Eutrobac was founded 3 years ago to commercialize Ellie's capability to assess water quality problems and implement her arsenal of solutions. We consult, design, construct, implement, and assess to help farm owners, lake associations, and municipalities adhere to regulations and improve water quality.
Our flagship technology, the patent-pending NutriFilter™, is an affordable, permanent method for removing nitrogen from water. The patent-pending device uses a pump rate and substrate material to create a perfect habitat for nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. As water is pumped through the device, the bacteria form a filter that converts dissolved nitrogen into nitrogen gas, a byproduct that harmlessly makes up 70% of the air we breathe. The NutriFilter™ also has benefits of providing habitat uptake for native plant & animal species as well as increasing dissolved oxygen levels in the water body.
