Interventional Radiology (IR) is a lesser-known but invaluable specialty of medicine. It was developed in the early 1970s, and is also called Vascular and Interventional Radiology (VIR) or sometimes referred to as “clinical” or “surgical radiology.”
Interventional physicians are rigorously trained medical doctors who use imaging technology such as CT, X-rays, MRI, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, or other imaging modalities to treat medical issues in every organ system of the body.
