Experience Learning, Inc. is an outdoor and environmental education organization in the backcountry of the Appalachians. Our mission is to develop effective community members through beyond-the-classroom, outdoor learning opportunities for children and adults. From our two campuses, Spruce Knob Mountain Center and Sweetwater Farm, our expedition-style instruction assists our students in developing their skills in campcraft, survival, orienteering, caving, and teambuilding (among many others!).
Located on the highest mountain in West Virginia, the remote and scenic Spruce Knob Mountain Center is surrounded on three sides by the Monongahela National Forest. We operate here, centered in handmade Mongolian-style yurts. Our farm campus stretches through the mountains in Sugar Grove, West Virginia along the rim of the Shenandoah valley.
Our vision is a world where people have the competence and will to affect positive change in their lives and the world. In order to have a vibrant community and give us a chance of survival on the planet, we’re going to need everyone to participate.
