Biomedical research drives progress in surgery. At the Experimental Surgery Berlin we cover three main areas; regenerative medicine, oncology and transplantation. We strive to gain detailed insight into the pathogenesis of several diseases, the influence of different surgical procedures on cell proliferation, response to chemotherapy and work in several models such as cell culture, tissue slices, organ-on-chip and organ-in-a-shell concepts to replace animals models. Several of our projects are funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF), the Else-Kröner-Fresenius-Stiftung (EKFS) and others. Our main objective is always to transfer our gained knowledge from bench-to-bedside to improve the care we provide for our patients.
