Research & Development of Innovation Biobased Leather Alternatives. Bridging Climate and Biodiversity. Farmaissance Innovation Holdings Limited, provides R & D support for iFarmaissance Brands and our biobased leather alternative projects. Our principal project is an R & D Collaboration between Farmaissance Innovation, the City University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Research Institute for Textiles and Apparel. It is jointly funded by the HKSAR Innovation and Technology Fund and Farmaissance Innovation. This Project used biomimetics and biotechnology, specifically bio-synthetics, bio-polymers and nanotechnology to produce a biobased synthetic leather alternative. It is focussed on the Automotive Industry with a decarbonisation goal to meet the exacting standards of this Industry for upholstery products. A second project, is addressing the use of agricultural waste and regenerative feedstocks as a biomass resource for the development of biobased leather alternatives for the fashion, furniture and sporting industries. The aim overall is to create technologies researched and developed together with the world class expertise and facilities of Hong Kong universities, and to utilise at industrial scale the vast plant-based waste and regenerative agricultural resources available worldwide. We are also able to access the advanced manufacturing and industrial expertise that exists in China for next generation materials, and market proximity for the end product.
