FENIX project

The European Union is facing with several issues caused by globalization. Both the delocalization of production plants (with the increasing need for imported products) and the instability characterizing several industrial sectors is pushing national economies to re-think their business models and re-adapt them to a new context, where the sustainability of products and processes is even more relevant. Within this overall framework, the need to think about innovative business models and industrial strategies, able to answer to these new requirements, is mandatory. One chance is the exploitation of secondary (and critical) resources that, currently, remain into wastes without any recovery, supported by Key Enabling (like Additive Manufacturing) and digital technologies. The objective of project FENIX is to define a set of innovative business models and industrial strategies focused on the circular economy principles. The final aim is to study and propose novel supply chains in order to enable the efficient recovery of secondary resources for the production of new added-value product-services. This could allow the easy reuse, reconfiguration and modularization of production systems, the exploitation of overcapacity and the renaissance of industrial poles all over the Europe. Project FENIX results will be demonstrated in practice through the exploitation of already existing pilot plants, adequately reconfigured and integrated basing on the needs of the related circular economy taken into account.
