FreshTrack Tech has developed specialized colorimetric sensing films tailored for monitoring shrimp freshness. The outcome is a dynamic colorimetric film crafted from biocompatible PolyVinyl alcohol (PVA) and dyes sourced from Arnebia euchroma, with the remarkable ability to showcase a diverse spectrum of colors, effectively conveying the state of freshness and potential spoilage in packaged shrimp. By leveraging colorimetric indicators, the smart packaging system will continuously monitor seafood quality in real-time. As food spoilage and microbial metabolites increase, the pH-responsive indicators will change color and provide consumers with a clear visual signal of freshness. The pH-dependent packaging will empower consumers to make informed decisions and help reduce food waste and the risk of food poisoning. The smart packaging will provide specific functionality beyond the role of a physical barrier and involve six tasks: inspection, detection, reporting, sensory, tracking, and transmitting. With FreshTrack Tech’s packaging, customers will easily determine whether a product is safe to consume at the time of purchase or before consumption, enhancing food safety.
